Gobblefunk – Final Animatic

(Procreate, Adobe Photoshop 2025, Adobe After Effects 2025, 28 seconds, April 2025 – May 2025)

Gobblefunk is a 2D animatic meant to serve as a commercial for the Daily Telegraph to sell Roald Dahl books to children. The point of the project was to take a commercial proposal and then turn it into a full animatic to theoretically pitch to a company. This animatic consisted of concept art creation, production board creation, and a full 2D animatic with sound. This project was completed by a team of five. I served as the Director, Project Manager, Environment Artist, and Colorist. This project was completed in 2025.

Team Members: Cherry Khant, Joyce Tanubudi, Riley Sellick, Kai Nguyen

Directing and Managing

I was chosen to be the Director and Project Manager for this project. After viewing my initial boards for the commercial I was voted to be director by my peers. As Director, I held weekly meetings where the team shared critique with each other on the current progress of the project. I led these meetings, gave feedback, made sure all the work being created matched the art direction of the film, and checked in with my team to see if they needed any additional support with their assigned tasks. As Project Manager, I also handled the creation of a GANTT chart, Bid Sheet, and Asset Tracker. I monitored everyone’s progress and consistently enforced deadlines as well as kept a production bible with all the concept art and storyboards created for the animatic.

Environment Art

The commercial is set in a old Bookshop where Roald Dahl’s classic character’s come to life. We wanted the characters to be in a full cartoon art style while the environment was rooted in reality this was to evoke the whimsical feeling we wanted for the commercial. I designed a few iterations of the store’s color palette for the team to choose from. Ultimately, we went for a warm and cozy feeling.

Coloring and Final Production Boards

I colored three of the final storyboard panels to convey the visual look of the commercial if it were ever produced. These boards were drawn by Riley Sellick. The line art was done by Riley Sellick and Joyce Tanubudi. I am responsible for the coloring only.

For the Production Boards I was responsible for annotating them with arrows, the character movement is in blue and the camera movement is in red. I then added written annotations to describe what needed to happen in each part of the commercial.
